Yachtsman's Swiss Music Box
Handmade by Reuge (makers of music boxes presented as Switzerland's official gift to visiting heads of state), this heirloom is designed with details reminiscent of a classic yacht, including an expansive carbon fiber "sail" to protect the plectrum, and a winding mechanism shaped like a line winch. Unlike many lesser versions that play digitally recorded sound, this music box uses authentic steel tines to generate four different musical selections exactly as they would sound from 19th century music boxes: Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody, " Verdi's "La Traviata, " Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons, " and Bizet's "Carmen." The mechanism is a precision Cartel 4.144 movement, with 3, 800 cylinder pins that pluck two 72-note combs, playing four tunes of 50 seconds each for up to 10 minutes. The convex base is mahogany inlaid with maple to create the appearance of a polished wooden sailboat deck, while the base plate is brushed nickel secured with the same kind of corrosion-resistant blued screws found on modern sailing vessels. The spring housing incorporates a winch lock, all surfaces are polished to a mirror finish, and a built-in indicator has a retrograde needle indicating which tune has been selected. Fully-integrated controls allow one touch song selection. *Personalized Service: Call 1-800-227-3528 between 8 am and 12 pm Eastern time, and our Product Specialists will gladly answer all questions or send more information about the Music Box.
